Top 5 Audi A4 Problems

Published by Webmaster

Since the introduction of the Audi A4 in 1994, it has been a very popular compact executive luxury sedan. Overall, Audi has done an excellent job at capturing the high-end luxury market, due to its attention to design, power and handling. The A4 is considered a mid-tier Audi model starting at around $36,000 for a brand new vehicle. And even though a new car might not have any immediate issues, A4’s – like all cars – have known problems that all car buyers should be aware of when they start getting old.

Here are the top 5 problems with Audi A4 vehicles according to Repair Pal:

5) Decreased Power And Fuel Economy

This, unfortunately affects Audi A4 models built between 2006 and 2017 that use the 2.0FSI, 2.0TFSI and 3.2FSI engines. All these engines have been reported to be subject to carbon build up and might cause a check engine light. The only way to fix this is to have the intake manifold, parts and cylinder head professionally cleaned. It is recommended that this be done every 20,000 miles.

4) Vacuum Leaks, Oxygen Sensor, Or Catalytic Converter Fault

A fault or failure in any of these would cause your Audi A4 Check Engine Light to turn on. The Oxygen Sensor is important for a vehicle to run efficiently and reducing carbon emissions. The Catalytic Converter also allows a vehicle to reduce emissions drastically and has been required by the EPA for decades.

A problem with the Oxygen Sensor or Catalytic Converter will call cause a failure of an emissions test, release a foul smell and will result in less power. Problems of this nature have not been reported in modeals built after 2012.

3) Clogged Plenum Tray Drains

There have been many reports with clogged drains causing problems with the Audi A4. Clogged drains cause water to enter the vehicle causing major damage to electrical components. Make sure to keep the drains free of debris like leaves, especially if you know a storm is coming.

This problem has not been reported by Audi models built after 2010 with an average mileage of 102,000 miles.

2) Engine Oil Leaks

Engine oil leaks in the Audi A4 are caused due to a failing or bad valve cover gasket. Leaks in the valve cover gasket cause oil to leak into the spark plug tubes, which results in an engine misfire illuminating the Check Engine Light.

This problem does not affect any models built after 2010 with an average mileage of 124,000 miles.

1) Failed Ignition Coil, Spark Plug, Or Ignition Wire

This problem causes the Check Engine LIght to illuminate because of the ignition coil or spark plug misfires, which causes the engine to misfire in the Audi A4. The result is a spark plug or ignition coil replacement.

The good news is that you won’t have to worry about such problems if your Audi is a 2012 or newer model with an average of 102,000 miles.

Great staff! (Highly Skilled) They were able to find an ongoing issue with my car that two dealerships failed to detect.

The staff had a clear understanding of the problem and were able to explain it to me in a way that I could understand. Thanks to them, I was able to take my car back to the dealership to have it fixed.
